The European Union (EU) Ecodesign Directive focuses on ensuring that we get the maximum possible performance out of every energy we use. The directive provides uniform EU-wide rules for improving the environmental performance of products, from household appliances to technical products. The EU has set itself targets for energy efficiency and CO2 emissions in order to limit the average global temperature increase to 1.5 ° C. To support this goal, the latest Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2019/1781 came into force in October 2019 and now includes frequency converters (VFDs) and a wider range of motors. A second phase, which extends the scope of the regulation and increases the requirements for engines, begins on July 1, 2023.
